About Tiny Lantern

The Tiny Lantern team

Who we are

We’re Kimberley and Jacob, a couple in Canberra, Australia. We started Tiny Lantern to make thoughtful, educational gifts for our nephew. We loved the results so much that we decided to share our projects with other Australian families.

Children's content is broken

Children’s content has been dominated by media giants with vast resources, sophisticated tools, and global reach. These conglomerates are shaping the way kids see the world, not with the goal of raising thoughtful, inspired children, but with the aim of keeping them entertained and hungry for more.

This has created a culture of quick hits and flashy distractions, where the focus is on amusement rather than growth. For these massive companies, the end goal isn’t to inspire — it’s to sell subscriptions, merchandise, and ads.

We have a rare chance to change it

Times are changing. Today, technology has made it possible for small creators like us to compete with media giants. Tools that were once only accessible to corporations, such as advanced design software, printing resources, and generative tools, are now available to regular people like us.

When used thoughtfully, these tools unlock incredible opportunities for small creators. They allow us to craft visually compelling content with care and intention, making sure every detail serves a deeper purpose: connecting kids with their local community, the land they live on, and ideas that matter. We believe children’s stories don’t need to come from a boardroom — they can come from a backyard.

Our vision

We believe in a future where our children’s minds are no longer shaped by media conglomerates, but by local storytellers and makers who care deeply about the communities they serve.

At Tiny Lantern, we’re starting with our corner of the world: Australia. With each book, we’re working toward a future where thoughtful, local content is the norm, not the exception.
